Chatting With...Sadie Jordan

@ sxdie_j

Sadie is a freelance nail artist and Fashion Illustration student from London. She is also YouTube content creator for WAH Nails.

 1. What's your favourite beauty trend at the moment? Do you have any predictions for upcoming trends?

My current favourite beauty trend is braided hairstyles. They're always making a comeback but for me they never left. I love having my hair in box braids because they're so low maintenance, yet they make me look 100 times more put together! I'm dying to get my hair braided at keash braids.

2. What is your biggest challenge you face regularly? How do you overcome it?

My biggest challenge is creating intricate nail art within a specific a time frame. Although I am essentially creating miniature works of art, time is definitely money and I've had to learn to pick up the pace and find short cuts that produce similar results.

3. What's been the highlight of your career so far?

The highlight of my career so far was doing nail art for Rita Ora. She had black gels with multicoloured foils, just when foils were the hot new shit in the salon. These were also featured on MTV's snapchat which is a major bonus!

4. Who are your favourite nail artists/beauty pro's at the moment?

My favourite nail artists on instagram are @CelinaRyden, @corasunsetarts and @krocaine. Three totally different, unique styles of nail art, all amazingly talented! And last but not least, I can't miss out our very own @anouskaanastasia at WAH!

5. Whats the best piece of advice you've been given?

The best piece of advice that I've been given is to be confident within myself and never doubt my ability. This has really helped me to tackle even the most complicated nail designs.

6. Whats next for you? Do you have any unfulfilled ambitions?

My next step is to graduate from my BA fashion illustration degree and start a career as a creative in advertising and possibly taking commissions on the side. I'm just about to start my second year but during term time I work Saturday's in the salon to pay for my food and travel. I'd also like to have more time to focus on the WAH nails youtube channel. I love making and editing nail art tutorials but I'd like to expand to making salon vlogs and collating footage from events etc.

7. Have you ever taken a massive gamble? Did it pay off? If not, what did you learn from it?

I've never really taken a massive gamble before. The only thing that comes to mind is me applying to work at WAH with absolutely no work experience or nail tech qualifications. It wasn't easy but somehow I managed to worm my way in and I've never looked back! Persistence, patience and practice are key.

8. If you weren't a nail tech/beauty pro, what would you be doing?

If I wasn't a nail tech I'd be a freelance illustrator. Possibly working on writing and illustrating my own children's books or taking commissions from fashion houses and magazines.

9. Whats the most common misconception/myths/old wives tale you come across?

The most common misconception I get in the salon is that clients want to take their gels off so that their nails can 'breathe' when really the nail is just made of enamel and doesn't really need air at all. Either way I just smile and get in with the removal.

10 Tell us one surprising fact about your self

A fun fact about me is that I'm almost 6 foot tall and I think I'm still growing!
